U.S. authorities arrested the alleged perpetrator behind a $335 million darknet-based bitcoin mixing service, Bitcoin Fog, after analyzing 10 years of blockchain knowledge, the Justice Department introduced Thursday.
Roman Sterlingov, 32, is a twin Russian-Swedish nationwide and was arrested Tuesday on the Los Angeles Worldwide Airport on expenses associated to cash laundering.
“Bitcoin Fog was the longest-running cryptocurrency ‘mixer,’ gaining notoriety as a go-to cash laundering service for criminals in search of to cover their illicit proceeds from legislation enforcement,” the DOJ wrote in a statement.
